77 offenders are being prosecuted for driving against traffic, dive for willful obstruction, five for illegal parking, two for unpainted commercial vehicle.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) arraigned owners and drivers of 146 vehicles for various traffic offences in August.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba disclosed this over the weekend, adding that the alleged offenders were being prosecuted before the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Mobile Court).
He said, “77 offenders are being prosecuted for driving against traffic, dive for willful obstruction, five for illegal parking, two for unpainted commercial vehicle, five for wrongful overtaking, four for driving on walkways/kerbs, six for BRT obstructions, 10 for reckless and dangerous driving, and four for picking and dropping passengers at undesignated bus stops,” among other alleged traffic infractions.
“It is disheartening that despite the state government’s vigorous public enlightenment and advocacy campaign via various media outlets, including online sensitisation, on the dangers inherent in disobeying traffic rules and regulations, some recalcitrant drivers are still endangering the safety of other road users on Lagos Roads,” Oreagba stated.
