Governance Election Advocacy and Research Service Zambia Limited- GEARS- Initiative has moved the Constitutional Court to interpret the implications of an independent candidate’s withdrawal from race after the close of nominations and before the election.
The organization has invited the Constitutional Court to interpret whether or not article 52 sub-article six of the constitution also includes independent candidates when they pull out of the race.
The provision states the Electoral Commission of Zambia-ECZ must cancel the election and call fresh nominations where a candidate dies, resigns or is disqualified in accordance with Articles 70, 100 or 153.
Yesterday independent candidate ALBERT YOMBWE pulled out from the KABUSHI Parliamentary race.
